HALON

Halon 1211 (bromochlorodifluoromethane) and Halon 1301 (bromotrifluoromethane)

Halon was introduced in the 1960s and was seen as the most effective gaseous fire suppression agent ever developed. The system was suitable for application in the protection of computer control rooms, museum, telecommunication switches and many other high value places.
By the late 1980s, scientific research was done on Halon according to ozone depletion. The result indicated that the agent was an ozone depleting chemical.

Phase out of new production of Halon is required after the Montreal Protocol of 1987. Then, it started the whole new era for the fire protection industry to find the most suitable alternative for Halon. Currently, FM-200® and Inergen have been approved by the EPA to be an alternative of Halon use.

According to Hong Kong's regulations on Halon, you cannot import or export Halon without a license started from 1994. It is also illegal to discharge Halon to the air. There is no obligation to replace your Halon system in the meantime. It is still legal to maintain the existing Halon system in Hong Kong. However, no new Halon is being manufactured; therefore, people should plan to replace with a Halon alternative for their Halon systems.

When the agent has been discharged, recycle and recharge services are available from licensed recycle manufacturer.
At Merito, we are a Registered Ozone Layer Protection Company and has the Manufacturing License to refill, recycle, and storage of Halon 1301, FM200, CO2, and NAF-SIII gases. Our company provides services to refill, recycle and recovery Halon, CO2, FM200 and other fire protection use gaseous.
