Fine Water Mist
technology is an nontraditional Halon replacements which
relies on relatively small droplet sprays to extinguish fire.
Standard sprinklers have relatively poor penetration
capability into obstructed areas. It is designed to control
fires, but not necessarily extinguish them. Water mist systems
require far less water than sprinklers in extinguishing a
fire. And, it has the capability to completely extinguish some
fires. Water mist may have the ability to hold a fire in check
and prevent it from spreading, thus controlling its
growth. |

Advantages of
Water Mist
System: | |
- it is nontoxic and
has no environmental problems |
-
inexpensive |
- better than
sprinkler in the following ways: |
utilize water
quantities a tenth or lower than sprinkler can suppress
flammable liquid pool storage is easily
facilitated water damage eliminated non-electrically

At MTS, we represent
PHIREX (AUSTRALIA) in designing, installing and
supplying their MISTEX® water mist system
in Hong Kong. Each water mist system is custom designed for
the area that it will operate, and the calculation will
include flow rates, droplet size and pressure
combinations. |

How it
works? |
"Nitrogen gas propels
formulated amounts of water through an engineered pipe system
to the risk area. Here, it is forced through nozzles where the
conversion to mist occurs. Essentially a fire requires three
elements to burn: fuel, oxygen, and heat. The mist cools the
fuel source and robs the blaze of oxygen thus attacking two
points of this fire triangle. Ingeniously, Mistex uses the
energy of the fire
itself." | |
